Commercial Institutional Review Boards (IRBs)

Why list commercial IRBs? Many commercial IRB web sites provide credible information for research subjects and people considering enrolling in research, some post papers or presentations by IRB members, and all of them provide IRB contact information.

This list is also intended to forestall confusion and misrepresentation. In a number of instances (thankfully few), zealous investigators prematurely or inaccurately announced a study had been approved by one of the better known commercial IRBs. People considering enrolling in research should always feel free to confirm such statements with the IRB, and especially if IRB approval is hyped or otherwise forms the backbone of recruitment and advertising for the study.

Some (many?) CROs and sponsors of drug and medical device studies have in–house IRBs, as do clinics, medical practices, and physician offices where studies are conducted. Listing here does not constitute advertisement or endorsement. This list does not pretend to be complete.
